Windmills at Sunset in Penong, Australia

Australian travel photographer Richard I’Anson’s spectacular shots look like happy accidents, but being in the right place at the right time usually takes hours—sometimes days—of meticulous planning. A co-founder of the preeminent Lonely Planet Images stock-photography library, I’Anson worked in a camera store and a mini-lab before he began freelancing in 1982. Four years later, he became a travel photographer, always shooting in color and striving to match outstanding subjects with exceptional lighting to capture the essence of a destination. I’Anson published a book about travel photography, and his images are featured in magazines, newspapers, websites and travel brochures worldwide.
